Welcome to the CAISU NSAW 2004 Homepage

For a modest investment, the Canadian space program has accomplished an incredible number of things over the past decades: pioneered communications satellite technology, become a world-leader in tele-robotics, selected and trained astronauts for work in Low Earth Orbit, and participated in scientific investigations. At its current funding level of $300M/year, the Canadian Space Agency is able to continue to support these initiatives, but not to launch many new missions or programs. By almost doubling its budget, the Canadian space program could tackle new challenges. The question is, what challenges should those be?

Every two years, the Canadian Alumni of the International Space University (CAISU) organize a conference for university students with a space-related theme. This year, CAISU invites university students in all disciplines and at all levels (Bachelor's, Master's, M.D., Ph.D., etc...) to answer the question, "What should Canada's space-related priorities be with an increased budget of $500M/year?" By participating in this conference, students will have a chance to comment on the space science, engineering, and operations in which Canada is investing.

The one-day conference will be influenced by the international, interdisciplinary, intercultural approach of the International Space University (ISU) academic experience. The student participants in the conference will receive lectures from world-wide leaders in the space industry, and will form working groups to address how the space program budget should be spent in Canada. After the conference, the working group results will be collated and printed for distribution to the Canadian government and industry.

Pre-registration for the 2004 NSAW on this website is a must, since a maximum number of attendees is set at 150 people, on a first come, first served basis.

CAISU hopes that committed and motivated students will come to discuss their views of Canada's future space program. Come to the 2004 National Space Awareness Workshop to make a difference and be inspired!
